Civic Engagement & Outreach

Picture

Women's Club of Sweetwater County- installed a metal bench by the veteran columbarium in the Green River cemetery. A committee was formed to raise money comprised of four members. The president had just joined a networking group called BNI. One of the members is devoted to veterans and donated $1500 to the cause. The Club raised an additional $500 by having a booth at the farmer's market in Green River and collecting money in canisters at the American Legion in Green River. The group then worked with the city parks department to the get the metal bench and plaque. The members also had to order the concrete for the installation. The group visited the cemetery with the manager of the grounds and the parks department representative and selected the location for the bench. The city installed the bench when it arrived.

GFWC Meadowlarks- held Meadowlark Market Arts, Crafts and Vendor Fair. The club contracted with Blue Federal Credit Union to host an arts, crafts and vendor fair. 30 local artisans showcased their products, the clubs raised some money and two sister clubs were able to raise money and generate interest in their clubs.

Women's Club of Sweetwater County- signed 1265 Christmas cards for deployed military. Several members took bags of cards home to sign, as well as going to Busy Hands section and working on them there. The cards were donated by thrift stores. The signed cards were delivered to the American legion for distribution.

GFWC-XWJC- put together care packages for deployed troops. Members brought donations to our October membership meeting. This was in response to a request from the VFW Wyoming Commander to support the troops. The VFW will package the items and send them to the locations downrange.

GFWC Women's Civic League of Cheyenne- provided $32,900 in Community Grants to eight organizations with some of the proceeds from the annual Christmas House fundraiser. This year, we offered easier participation for our members in the meeting and decision process by providing copies of all the grants applications via electronic means, so they were able to review and research prior to the initial meeting.

GFWC Women's Civic League of Cheyenne- Special Needs Committee donated $2025 in gift cards to Laramie County Individuals with disabilities. We contacted providers in the area to get names of individuals who could use a little gift at Christmas time. We used club and committee funds to purchase gift cards, then got Christmas cards with gift cards to the providers for distribution.
