Domestic Violence

The Yoder Woman's Club had the Goshen County Task Force come and speak to their club. The task force listen's to many of the communities issues but much of their responsibility is around housing issues for women trying to get out of abusive relationships. This task force also helps the women to understand the court process and their court dates. Interestingly enough this task force which consists of women in order to help women, recently had to hire a man. They tound that the men coming to the task force were not comfortable talking to a woman about what was happening in their lives. The Yoder Woman's Club donates to this Task Force every year to support them and the people they support.

The Yoder Woman's Club had the President of Wyoming Trucker's Against Trafficking come to their club and educate them on the things to keep their eyes open for while traveling in their community and to various meetings across the state or their personal travel interstate. He gave half hour presentation on the signs that a woman or child may be in a trafficking situation. He also provided resources as to how to handle the situation and who to contract to make them aware of the potentials of trafficking. This program was strongly recommended to the State President and will be part of the April 2025 State Conference agenda.

The Women's Civic League of Cheyenne collected 23 containers of laundry detergent to donate to Safe House, which is a non-profit in their area that supports on average 45 families sheltered for domestic violence every month. This project was done in January.

The Women's Civic League of Cheyenne in a follow up project during February - April collected needed linens for Safe House. They collected 10 new twin sheet sets, 3 bath towel sets. This project is in response to Safe House reaching out and letting the club know what they needed in order to support the 45 families in their shelter.

The Women's of Sweetwater County donated a basket to the YWCA Festival of trees fundraiser. The YWCA supports many programs for women who need shelter in their community. The fundraiser helps proved shelter, sheds for pets, gas cards and a child care center. The basket went for $170.

The Woman's Club of Sweetwater County attended the YWCA Ribbon Cutting and Open House. The club supported the YWCA this year in a separate program but the objective of this was to establish a tighter connection with the YWCA, to get the club name and GFWC brand out into the community and discuss future possibilities of their club supporting the abused women programs that the YWCA runs.

The new administrations theme is Empowering Women, Nurturing Children: Building a Better lomorrow. She visited 7 of the ll clubs in the state during the second half of 2024 getting the message of her them out to the clubs, as well as highlighting the theme in the states monthly newsletter. She also takes care to highlight any club activities that are in support of the theme. This is very important given that the majority of all programs and projects were set in the last administration. The President sent out over 70 letters looking for sponsorship and donations for GFWC Wyoming and its projects and she is also looking at grant applications. If these come to fruition then she plans on using them to supplement fundraising by the clubs in both the Domestic Violence and Advocates for Children areas.

The Woman's Club of Sweetwater County supports the McKenzie Home. This club supports this not for profit not only by helping with their fundraisers but by maintaining a member from their club on their board as well as participating and attending fundraisers. Their participation in fundraisers and their presence on the board aids them in knowing what areas are in the most need within their community. It also helps their club be known within the community as a leader and significant partner for events. This brand helps with fundraising activities that they participate in because the community knows and respects them. For this particular tundraiser, one of the members made a rattle basket that raised $1500 at the fund raiser. Nine members attended the fundraising dinner which was funded by the club partnering with High Country Hearing to pay for the table. The McKenzie home supports single mothers in the state by giving them a place to stay and to team job related skilis. Both of these provide them with the opportunity to get on their feet and to support themselves into the future. The child care facility allows the mothers to find a job and work to save enough money to find a place of their own.
